Historic Calligraphy Set - Lincoln
031500037909
RP-AS-CALLI-LINC

From the 6th to 19th century, quill pens were the principal writing instruments. The best quills were made from large birds like turkeys, swans, and geese. Metal pens were first patented in America in 1810 and widely used by 1860s but many calligraphers still consider a quill pen to be the best writing instrument. During the Civil War, many soldiers used quills to pen their letters home, because feathers were a disposable and available resource.

Set contains a quill, paper, and 4 powder inks. Mix one 'pinch' of ink powder with 3/4 oz of hot water thoroughly before use.
