Twelve Years a Slave is the autobiographical story of Solomon Northup, a free man living in Upstate New York. Following a bizarre series of events Northup ended up drugged, beaten, and sold to a slave trader. He ended up purchased by a Louisiana planter and spent the next twelve years as a slave before finally being able to regain his freedom.
